帰国しました。
　We came back
2/16日帰国しました。

　今回の旅は1/15から2／16。トロント経由でトリニダード島に入り、トバゴ島島に入り、トバゴ島そしてジャマイカと回りました。
旅ブログを書き始める前に少しだけ今回のハチドリたちを紹介します。
 
　We came back yesterday. This time, we first visited Trinidad, then Tobago and finally went to Jamaica. Before start to write this travel blog I will put some photos of Hummingbirds we saw this time.
 

　トリニダード島でみた「ホオカザりハチドリ」. 大きさはくちばしからシッポの先まで 5cmくらいです。
　Tufted Coquette. The size is about 5cm.
 

　同じくトリニダード島でみた「ルビートパーズハチドリ」. 大きさは９cmくらいです。
　Ruby-Topaz Hummingbird in Trinidad.The size is about 9cm.
 

　ジャマイカでみた「フキナガシハチドリ」です。大きさは３０cmくらいです。
　Red-billed Streamer-tail in Jamaica. The size is about ３０cm。
 
　写真の整理をしつつ今回の写真をアップしていきます。ぜひぜひまたお訪ねください。

トリニダード・トバゴとジャマイカ、探鳥の旅
　Visiting Trinidad & Tobago and Jamaica

　今回の旅は、1/15羽田発、トロント泊。
1/16深夜トリニダード着。
1/30 トバゴ島訪問、2/3再びトリニダード島に戻り一泊。
2/4 早朝ジャマイカへ。
2/14, ジャマイカ発トロント泊。
2/15, トロント発、羽田着というスケジュールです。訪ねた場所は少ないのですが連絡便などが悪くて移動に時間を取られた旅でした。
　This time, 1/15: We flew from Haneda to Toronto, 1/16 : Flew to Trinidad. 1/30: Visited Tobago, 2/3,: Came back to Trinidad.
2/4: Flew to Jamaica. 2/14: Flew to Toronto. 2/15: Flew to Haneda and arrived at Haneda on 2/16.
The flight connection wasn't very good so we spent a lot of days only to move to the next places.

 
　1/15 まずカナダトロントへ。北米東部を襲っていた寒波でトロントは気温マイナス１４度。滑走路は凍り欠航便が相次いでいました。私たちの便はもともと翌日でしたのでまずホテルへ。
　1/15 Flew to Toronto, where in the middle of cold wave and the temperature was -14 degree circus. Many flights ware cancelled. Our flight was the next day so we went to our hotel.
 
　1/16 , トリニダードへ。雪は夜半には止み翌日は晴天。
　1/16. It was fine

 
　問題なくトリニダード島に。本来なら午後４時頃に着くはずだったのですがカナダ航空の都合で時間変更で到着は深夜。空港では通関は極めてスムーズでしたが肝心のお迎えがいません。もちろん今時公衆電話などなく、インフォも夜中ではしまっています。やむなくタクシーの案内をしていた人に頼み込んで電話をしてもらったところ今向かっているところとのこと。なんとか迎えの人に会えてやっとアパートに着きました。
　We arrived at Trinidad, passed the custom and immigration smoothly but there was nobody to welcome us. There was no pay-phone, information center was closed. So I asked a man who was managing taxi to call to the owner of our apartment. He was reluctant but kindly did it. The owner was on the way so we finally could see him and arrived at our apartment.
 
　今回の旅先はカリブ海です。
　This time, our destinations are Caribbean Sea.

 
　これはトバゴ島とトリニダード島の地図です。訪れた場所は赤字で示してあります。
　This is a map of Trinidad & Tobago. The places we visited are written in red.

 
まず今回滞在したアパートから紹介します。
First I will introduce our apafrtment.

　手前ゲートの左側にあるのが警備員室です。２階の一番奥が私たちの部屋。２階の一番手前はオーナーの息子さんの部屋。一階はオーナーの会社でした。
　On the left, guardian's room. Our room is on the second floor. The first floor is the company the owner runs.
 
　部屋に入ると、

　こちらはキッチン。画面には写っていませんがコーヒーメーカー、トースター、電子レンジとほとんどなんでもありました。
　This is kitchen. Not in the photo but there wre microwave, toaster, coffee makes and almost everything we need in the kitchen.
 

　ここがダイニング。広くて綺麗な部屋でした。ベッドルームが２つあり奥の部屋はその一つ。
　Our room was wide and clean. This is dining room. There was two beds rooms.
 

　夕方、アパートからの眺め。高台にあるので結構いい眺めです。
　Evening view from the veranda of our room. The apartment was in the middle of a hill and had very good view of the low land.
 
　さてこのアパートで約２週間、エイサーライトネイチャーセンター、イエレッティ、マリポサなどのハチドリや野鳥たちが見られる施設、個人宅を訪ねます。
　From here we visited Asa Wright Nature Center, Yerette and Mariposa, where we can see a lot of humming birds and other birds.
 
　1/17、 この日は宿のオーナーが手配してくれた車でスーパーや銀行へ。
　1/17, we went to bank, supermarket and other places by the car which the owner kindly arranged.
 
　1/18 ～１/30,　トバゴ島に発つまでは、エイサーライトネイチャーセンター、イエレッティ、マリポサで鳥見三昧です。
途中３泊はエイサーに泊まりました。ここは３泊しないとOilbirdという特別な鳥を見に行くツアーに参加させ絵もらえないのです。
　1/18 ～１/30, till we go to Tobago, we visited Asa Wright Nature Center, Yerette and Mariposa for hummingbird watching as well as birdwatching.
 
　では早速ハチドリたちを紹介させてください。
まずはホオカザリハチドリです。この子に会いたくてこの旅を計画しました。体長はくちばしから尾羽の先までで約５cm。体重２gくらいです。胴体は親指より小さめでしょうか。
　So let me introduce you hummingbirds. This is called Tufted coquette, which we made this travel to meet him. The size is about 5cm. The size of his body is a little bit smaller than the size go thumb
 

　エイサーを訪ねた初日は雨でしたが、ひっきりなしに現れてくれました。
ハチドリは実は雨が結構好きなようです。
　It was raining on the day we visited Asa, but he appeared a lot. I heard that hummingbirds like rain.
 

　実に立派なホオカザリ羽です。Great cheek plumes, aren't they?
 

　こんなに長いんです、カザリバネ。The cheek plumes is very long.
 

　ハチドリですから空中で止まります（ホバリングします。）喉の輝きがきれいでしょう？
この花はベルベーナと言ってハチドリに人気の花です。
　It can hover becuase it's a hummingbird. The flower is called vervena.
 

　こちらはメス。カンムリもホホバネもなく極めてシンプル。どのコケットもメスは同じに見えます。
　This is female. No crown, no cheek plume, quite simple. Females of all coquettes look the same.
 

　こちらもメスです。Female.
 

　オスは冠に長いホオカザリ羽。喉もキラキラ光るし、ホオカザリの先の水玉も角度によってはキラキラ光るのです。
　Male has crown and long cheek plumes. Polka dot at the end of the cheek plumes shined metallic green.
 

　一円玉の大きさと比較してください。
　Sorry you mightn't have seen Ine yen coin, the diameter of one yen coin is 2cm.
 
　ホオカザリハチドリと並んで人気のあるのがルビートパズハチドリ。宝石の名前を二つも貰っているのも頷けるほど美しいです。
　Ruby-Topaz is also very popular hummingbirds. It is given two jewelry names and really beautiful.

　この子はメスです。This is female.
 


　後ろに写っているのはシロエリハチドリ。ずいぶん大きさが違うのがわかると思います。
　The hummingbird behind is White-necked Jacobin. Obviously the size is very different.
 

　こちらはオス。This is male.
 

　こちらもオスです。Male.

トリニダード島は一つにまとめようと思っていたのですが、あまりに長くなりそうなのでその２にしました。
I thought that I put all photos in Trinidad in one part but it will be too long so I made Trinidad -2, and maybe Trinidad-3.
 

タイトルに使っている写真もここもイエレッテ、Yerette,ハチドリの里という意味の場所です。ご主人はここに写っているテオ、 Theodore Fergason さん。個人のお宅です。
　ここには滞在中３回訪れました。とりわけ朝日の中、花々の間を飛ぶハチドリが美しかったです。入場料は、滞在約2.5時間、簡単な食事付きで一人２５ドル。初回は私たちは７時半から２時半ぐらいまでいたので、２回ぶん一人５０ドル払いました。ここの良いところはともかく花に来るハチドリをすごく近くで見られること、それと明るいこと,花が多いこと、で写真を撮るには最適でした。
 
This photo and the photo behind the title are from Yerette, Mr. Theodore Ferguson's house, in the middle in the photo. Yerette means the home of Hummingbirds, Theo explained. We visited this place three times. It was really beautiful to see hummingbird in the early morning sunshine. Here are a lot of flowers and hummingbirds come very close to us. These are other attracting points for us to take photos.
 

奥様のGloriaです。私たちは食事制限があるのでフルーツや他のものを出してくれました。
She is Theo's wife, Gloria. She kindly served us fruits and different meal for us because we are on diet.
 
以下チャゴシエメラルドハチドリです。他の場所で撮ったものも入っています。
The photos below are Copper rumped hummingbird. I put photos taken in other places.
 

胸、頭は緑、腰のあたりは銅色、尾は紺色で、足には白いパフが付いています。
The tail is dark blue, has white puff on their legs and other part is shiny metallic green.
 

こちらはアイオハチドリ。どちらを向いてもキラキラ輝いて実に綺麗です。

さてYeretteも良かったですがやっぱり一番は、エイサーライトネイチャーセンター、ASA Write Nature Center.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
標高約1000mにあるセンターは深い森に囲まれてこの時期は昼間でも涼しいくらいです。当然夜は寒かったです。
　The main birdwatching place is ASA Write Nature Center. About 1000m above the sea level, surrounding deep tropical forest.
It's a bit cold even a daytime at this time of the year. At night? of course chilly.
 

急な斜面にはコテージが点々と建てられ、ベルベーナやハイビスカス、火炎樹などハチドリが好きな花がいたるところに植えられていて、どこを見てもハチドリ。ハチドリ天国でした。
There several cottage built on a steep slope. A lot of flowers which hummingbirds love are planed everywhere and we can see hummingbirds easily.
 

こちらはメインビルデイングにあるテラス。このテラスから昼間はたくさんの鳥たちを観察することができます。夜はラムパンチ等お酒（？）が振る舞われ、みなさん思い思いにくつろいでいました。
This is a terrace in the main building. From where we can watch a lot of birds and hummingbirds. At night, guests were relaxing drinking free rum punch.
 

こちらはレストラン。宿は３食付きで食事時になると銅鑼がなります。
This is the restaurant.
 

敷地内のはたくさんのウォーキングコースがあり、熱帯林の中を自由に散策できます。
There are a lot of walking course and we can enjoy birdwatching there.
 

これはシロアリの巣。オーストラリアでは地上に塚を作っていましたがここでは木の幹に作るようです。あちこちで見ました。

 
This is the nest of termites. In Australia, they make a nest on the ground but here around the trunk of a tree.
 
さて、テラス下から少しウォーキングコースを下ると、ハーミットがしきりに来る花がありました。トーチジンジャーというんだそうです。
We walked down from the bottom of the terrace and found a good place where hermits come very often.Hermits love this flower, Torch Ginger.
 
まず、ムネアカハチドリ。Rufous-breasted hermit.
 

長い弓なりのくちばしを持っているのがハーミットの特徴です。They have long curved beak.
 

頭から飛び込みます。まるでアクロバット。
Jump from the head to get nectar of thew flower.. Really like acrobat.
 

こちらはコビトユミハチドリ。This is little Hermit.

 
 
 

そしてこちらはミドリユミハチドリ And Green Hermit.

 
 
 
 

緑色の背中と、真ん中の２本の尾羽が長いのが特徴です。
 

さて、グリーンハーミットはなんとエイサーのメインビルディングの電灯の傘の鎖に巣を作っていました。下の塊は昨年。上が今年だそうです。この中に体を折りたたんで入って卵を温めているのです。

 
 
 
 
 

しばらく見ていたらなんと、折りたたんでいた体を徐々に伸ばしながらハーミットが巣から出てきました。

まだまだトリニダード編です。ここではまだアップしてなかったハチドリとそのほかの鳥達を紹介していきます。
Still writing about Trinidad. I will upload some photos of hummingbirds I haven't shown yet and other birds.
 

この子はハシナガハチドリ。くちばしが長いというネーミングだと思います。頭の青と喉のピンクがキラキラして美しいです。
Long-billed Starthroat. The blue on the head and pink on the throat is really beautiful.
 

ハシナガハチドリですが背中側から見るとキラキラが見えません。

 
 
 
 

ユキムネエメラルドハチドリ。その名の通り胸の白が綺麗です。
White-chested Eemerald, named after it's white chest.
 

こちらはマリポサガーデン。日本ではほとんど紹介されていませんがハチドリを見ながら食事ができます。ここでもかぶりつきでハチドリが見られます。

 
This is Mariposa Garden. It's also a nice place though it hasn't introduced in Japan yet. We have lunch here looking at hummingbirds. If you like you can stay here.
 

ここはカカオを使った食事が有名なそうですが、このカカオアイスは絶品でした。アイスクリームを置いているのはカカオビーンズを輪切りにして凍らせたものです。すぐ溶けてしまわないようにとの配慮です。
　This place is famous for meal using cacao Beans. This Cacao Icecream was really delicious.　The Icecream tray was put on a frozen Cacao beans so that it won7t melt quickly.
 

こちらはクロムネマンゴーハチドリ。尾羽の赤がとても綺麗です。
Black-throated Mango. It has very beautiful red tail feather.
 

こちらはメスです。メスも尾羽が綺麗です。

 
　This is female. She also has beautiful red tails
 

こちらはマンゴーのメスとルビートパーズのメスです。ハチドリは実はかなり縄張り意識が強く、よく威嚇しあっています。
Female Mango and Female Ruby-Topaz. Hummingbirds are rather aggressive and often threten each other to protect their territory.
 

シロエリハチドリ。この写真では見えませんが首の後ろが白いんです。
White-necked Jacobin. It has white neck though it can't be seen in this photo.
 

こちらは優雅に舞うルビートパズメスです。
Ruby-Topaz female. It flies elegantly.
 

ムネアカハチドリ。Rufous-breasted hermit.
 


さてここからはハチドリでない鳥を紹介します。ほとんどはエイサー（ASA)で撮ったものです。
From here I will show you some birds, not hummingbirds, mostly I took at ASA Write Nature Center.

まずはムラサキミツドリ。その名の通り花の蜜を吸います。
This is Purple Honeycreeper. It drinks nectar as the name shows.
 

手前がメスです。The front one is a female.

 
 

この子がメスです。あまり似てないですよね。
This is female. Male and female don't look like each other, no?
 

こちらはズグロミツドリ。オスです。綺麗な空色がとても目を引きます。もちろん花の蜜が大好き。
This is Green Honeycreeper. Male.　They also like flower nectar.
 

こちらはズグロミツドリのメスです。

 
This is Green Honeycreeper, Female.
 

こちらもメス。Female.
 

ギンバシベニフウキンチョウ。オスです。くちばしが銀色なのでこの名がついたようです。
Silver-beaked Tanager, Male.
 

この２羽はカップル。赤いのがオス。左がメスです。

シマアリモズ　見事な縞でしょう。

こちらはオオカンムリスドリ。花をよく食べます. Crested Oropendola. They eat flowers.
 

とても大きな袋状の巣を作るので有名です。 They are very famous to make a long nest hung from tree branches.
 

右上の穴が巣の入り口です。入り口の前でスピードダウンして頭から巣の中に入ります。
The hole on the top right is the entrance. He enter the nest from his head.
 

Asa Resevation Center は簡単にアブラヨタカを見ることができる場所として有名です。アブラヨタカを見るツアーは3日に一度。参加することができるのはここに３泊以上泊まった人だけです。
　Asa Resevation Center is famous as a place where we can see Oilbird. The tour to see Oilbird is once in 3 days. We have to stay here at least 3 days to join this tour

　アブラヨタカは暗い洞穴の中にいます。そこに行くにはこんな道を３０分ほど歩きます。ツアーの一行。洞穴はこの下です。
Oilbirds live in a cave. To get there we walk about 30 minutes in a road like this. Other tourists in the same tour.
 

この洞穴の奥にアブラヨタカがいます。タイトルの右側に使った写真はこの洞穴です。Oilbirds live in this cave.　The photo I use on the base of the title is also this cave.

ASA, エイサーでの鳥見を堪能した後はまたアパートに戻りました。夕焼けが綺麗でした。

After visited the cave of Oilbirds, we went back to our apartment. The sunset from there was always beautiful.

　ここはカカオを使った食事が有名なそうですが、このカカオアイスは絶品でした。アイスクリームを置いているのはカカオビーンズを輪切りにして凍らせたものです。すぐ溶けてしまわないようにとの配慮です。
　This place is famous for meal using cacao Beans. This Cacao Icecream was really delicious.　The Icecream tray was put on a frozen Cacao beans so that it won7t melt quickly.
 

　こちらはクロムネマンゴーハチドリ。尾羽の赤がとても綺麗です。
　Black-throated Mango. It has very beautiful red tail feather.
 

　こちらはメスです。メスも尾羽が綺麗です。

　This is female. She also has beautiful red tails
 

　こちらはマンゴーのメスとルビートパーズのメスです。ハチドリは実はかなり縄張り意識が強く、よく威嚇しあっています。
　Female Mango and Female Ruby-Topaz. Hummingbirds are rather aggressive and often threten each other to protect their territory.
 

　シロエリハチドリ。この写真では見えませんが首の後ろが白いんです。
　White-necked Jacobin. It has white neck though it can't be seen in this photo. 
 

　こちらは優雅に舞うルビートパズメスです。
　Ruby-Topaz female. It flies elegantly.
 

　ムネアカハチドリ。
　Rufous-breasted hermit.

 
　さてここからはハチドリでない鳥を紹介します。ほとんどはエイサー（ASA)で撮ったものです。

　From here I will show you some birds, not hummingbirds, mostly I took at ASA Write Nature Center.

　まずはムラサキミツドリ。その名の通り花の蜜を吸います。
　This is Purple Honeycreeper. It drinks nectar as the name shows.
 

　手前がメスです。The front one is a female.

 

　この子がメスです。あまり似てないですよね。
　This is female. Male and female don't look like each other, no?
 

　こちらはズグロミツドリ。オスです。綺麗な空色がとても目を引きます。もちろん花の蜜が大好き。
　This is Green Honeycreeper. Male.　They also like flower nectar.
 

　こちらはズグロミツドリのメスです。

　This is Green Honeycreeper, Female.
 

　こちらもメス。

　ギンバシベニフウキンチョウ。オスです。くちばしが銀色なのでこの名がついたようです。
　Silver-beaked Tanager, Male.
 

　この２羽はカップル。赤いのがオス。左がメスです。
