冬の北海道を訪ねて。
　Visiting Hokkaido in Winter.

 

2019/02
　北海道の旅、今回はユキホオジロ、シマエナガ、そしてキクイタダキ　などなどに会いに行きました。
This time we went to Hokkaido to see Snow Bunting, Long-tailed Tit, Goldcrest and so on.
 

12/9、羽田12：15発中標津行き。スカイツリーに見送られて出発です。　
Our plane left Haneda at 12:15 for Nakashibetu airport. We saw Sky-tree, a symbol of Tokyo on our left.

 

東北の上空を飛び、海を越えて一路北海道中標津へ。
We flew on Tohoku area cross the sea and headed to Nakashibetu, on the east of Hokkaido.
 

中標津の少し手前で右手に湖発見。はじめ屈斜路湖だと思ったのですが後で地図でよく調べたら摩周湖でした。もっとよく写真を見ると屈斜路湖はその奥にありました。
　We saw a lake. First we thought it would be Lake Kussharo but later we found it Lake Mashu by checking the map,
 

ひときわカルデラが目立つのが摩周岳、手前が西別岳のようです。
Mt. Mashu is a volcano with caldera and Mt. Nishibetu is in front of it.
 

飛行機から雪原を。Snow field from the airplane.
 

空港でレンタカーを借りて今日の目的地弟子屈の鱒やさんへ。一面の雪景色にひたすら感動。でもまだ３時前なのにもうほとんど夕暮れです。
　We rent a car at the airport and headed for "Masuya", our destination, where we are going to stay for 5 nights. Along the way to go there on the both side there was snow, snow and snow. It was really breathtaking. It was before 3:00 p.m. but we felt it was almost sunset time.
 

  北海道は大きな通りはしっかり除雪されているので大丈夫と言われてきましたが、２日前に大雪が降ったとかで、まだ随分雪が残っていました。途中曲がりそこなって道の脇の横転しているトラックとかもあったりして、こわごわ運転して、着いた時にはもうほとんど暮れかかっていました。こちらの日没はなんと４時前でした。
　We heard that the main streets were cleared away the snow but there were still snow left here and there. We saw a truck overturned along the street so we drove very carefully. When we arrive there it was already around 4:00 and it was dark!!!
 

私たちが着いたのは弟子屈の町からちょっと北にある鱒やさんという釣りと鳥見の宿。屈斜路湖や摩周湖も近くです。翌日は宿のご主人に、野付半島鳥見に連れて行っていただくことにしました。
Masuya is a place to stay for bird-watchers and fishing-lovers. Lake Mashu and Lake Kussharo are near here.
We asked the owner of the inn to take us to Notsuke peninsula to see Snow Bunting and Short-eared owl the next day.
 
12/10、朝です。こちらは夜が開けるのは遅くて７時過ぎです。部屋の窓から。枝についた霜が陽の光でキラキラしてとても綺麗です。
The view from our room in the morning. The sun rise around 7:00 here. So daytime is very short.
After breakfast we headed for Notsuke Peninsula.
 

途中中標津のナナカマド街道の様子を見て、それからコンビニでお昼を買い、一路野付へ。
野付半島です。半島といっても全長２８kmに渡る海に突き出た砂嘴。車は途中までしか入れないので後はひたすら歩きます。狭くて平らな砂嘴の右側が野付湾、左は太平洋？
Notsuke Peninsula. It's a 28 km-log pit. It's narrow and flat. We could go by car first but walked the last part to the edge of the peninsula for about 2 km on the snow field.
The right of the peninsula is Notsuke Bay and the left is Pacific Ocean???
 

雪原の中にお一人カメラを構えている方がいました。お会いしたらお髭からつららが下がっていました。
　We met a birdwatcher taking the photos. Surprisingly Icicle was falling from his beard.
 

遮るものが何もないので風が強くてともかく寒いです。でも砂嘴(半島)の先端までどんどん進みます。
It was windy and was freezing cold but we walked forward　steadily.
 

ここが先端。向こうに見えるのは別海町の尾岱沼の集落だそうです。
Finally we arrived at the edge of the peninsula. Beyond the sea is Odaito Village in Hokkaido.
 

実は野付半島はくるっとカーブしているので、半島の初めでは、半島は海につきでていたのに、先端まで来るといつの間にか目の前は元の陸地でした。後で地図を見て納得しました。
　 This is the map of Notsuke Peninsula. It is curved largely so first we went toward the sea from the cost first but when we arrived at the edge the cost was in front of us. Later I realized it when I wanted the map.
 

で肝心のユキホオジロは？もちろんいました。
Did we see Snow bunting? Of course we did. They were really lovely.
 

ではユキホオジロです。Snow Bunting.
 

とても風の強い日だったので、飛ぶのも枯れ草にとまるのも一苦労のようでした。
It was really windy so it looked very difficult for them not only to fly but also to porch.
 

好物のハマニンニクの枯れ枝にとまって,　They have a rest poaching on the dead grass which needs are their favorite.
 

風の中に飛び出す前にちょっと一休み。
 

この２羽は縄張り争いのようです。They looked fighting over territory
 

遊んでるみたいですが、風が強いので必死です。They are serious because the wind is so strong.
 

ともかく夢中でハマニンニクの実を食べます。They like the seed of this plant.
 

風が強くて飛ばされそうになるのでよく羽を広げてくれます。Windy! So they open their wing so that they stay at the same place.
  

砂嘴の先のハナニンニクから順に実を食べはじめ、あるところまで行くと一斉に先端に戻ってまた食べ始めます。私たちも追いかけます。これはその戻る時のシーンです。
They start to east the seed from the edge of the spit. When they go certain distance, they flew back to the edge and stat to eat. So we follow them to take photos.This is the moment t when they fly back to the edge.
 

寒風の中でしゃがんで風を避けてお昼を食べまた撮影。さすがに冷えたので２時過ぎにネイチャーセンターまで引き上げました。このあとは夕方に現れるというコミミズクを待ちました。
　 It was really cold so we went back to the Nature Center round 2 o'clock and waited Short-eared Owl which will appear in the evening.

冬の北海道を訪ねて。
　Visiting Hokkaido in Winter.

 

12/10 ネイチャーセンターで一休みした後は野付半島の根元の方にコミミズク探しに出かけました。コミミが現れるまで野付の冬景色を堪能。
　We had a rest at the Nature Center, then went to look for Short-eared Owl. We enjoyed the snow scenery at Notsuke peninsula till the Owl appeared.
 
野付湾です。Notsuke Bay.
 

 
 エゾシカです。あまり逃げないです。Ezo deer.

 
立派な角ですが一年で抜け代わるそうです。They have splendid horns.　

 
野付湾とその向こう岸の風景です。　雲が切れて少し日が出て来ました。もしかして夕日の中でコミミズクを取れるかもしれません。期待は膨らみます。
Notsuke Bay and the other side of the bay..A little sunlight came through the clouds. We might be able to take the photos of Owl in the evening sunshine.

 
野付半島は水没林でも有名です。Notsuke Peninsula is famous for submerged forest.

 
雪が木の片側に吹き付けられていました。よほど強い横風がふきつけたそうです。
Snow was stuck to the tree trunks due to the strong wind.

 
  ３時過ぎ、どこからともなくコミミズクが現れました。感激です。After 3 o'clock, a Short-eared Owl appeared from nowhere. We were excited a lot.　
 

雪原を飛ぶコミミ。その向こうは凍った海。Short-eared Owl flying on the snow fierld. Behinfd it was the frozen sea.
 

夕日の中を飛びます。Flying in the evening sunlight.
 

鱒やさんのご主人の橘さんが車を運転してくれるので、私たちは何も考えずにただ撮るだけ。
The owner of Masuya drived the car so we focused only to take photos, which was great.
 

この日は風が強く、風の強い日はコミミは風に向かってしか飛べないそうです。橘さんにはコミミに飛ぶ先がわかるので先回りして絶好の場所に車を回してくれました。
The owner knew to where the bird would go, so he drove the car ahead, stopped the car at the best position to take the photo. So what we did was to wait the bird would come.
 

  ちょっと一休み。 Have a short rest.
 

コミミが通り過ぎてしまうとまた先回りしてくれるのでただひたすら撮ります。We took photos. photos and photos.
 

夕日を浴びて綺麗です。It flies in the evening sunshine.
 

ほれぼれするほど伸びやかに飛びます。It flies so freely.
 

  ホバリングして狩をする瞬間です。At the moment to get food after hovering for a while.
 

北海道初日でした。何枚シャッターを切ったたかわからないほど充実した1日でした。橘さんありがとうございました。

冬の北海道を訪ねて。
　Visiting Hokkaido in Winter.

12/11 12/9夕刻こちらに到着し。翌12/10,鳥見初日から信じられないほど充実した日を過ごし、なんとまだ鳥見２日目です。
　この日は、まず屈斜路湖の藻琴展望台へ。橘さんに連れて行っていただいたのですが、まさに絶景でした。
The first birdwatching day was really fulfilling so we felt like we were here for a long time but in reality it was only the second day. This day we went to Mokoto observatory. The view was really fantastic.
 

向こう岸の温泉の湯けむり(?)でしょうか。White smoke is from hot springs on the other side?
 

左に目をやると斜里岳、海別岳、遠音別岳、と知床半島の山々、そしてオホーツク海まで見えます。
To our left we could see Mt.Shari from the right, Mt.Kaibetu, Mt. Onnebetu、mountains in Shiretoko peninsula and Sea of Okhotsk.
 

この後はどんどん下って網走湖に。ここも雪、雪で真っ白。Then we went to Lake Abashiri.

  結局ここでは鳥さんには会えませんでしたので雪景色を堪能した後は次の場所へ。多分これが海別岳かと。We couldn't see any birds so we went to the next place. This is Mt. Kaibetu.
 

そしてこれらが知床の山々です。These are mountains in Shiretoko Peninsula.
 

まっすぐな道がどこまでも続きます。In Hokkaido, the road goes straight.
 

しばらく、道東の雪景色です。Snow scenery in East Hokkaido.
 

斜里岳、夏も良い山でしたが雪をかぶった姿は格別です。Mt. Shari. It is beautiful especially in winter with snow.
 

美しい雪原を横切ってオオワシを見に行きました。いました、２羽。他の木にも何羽か。日本で一番大きな鳥で羽を広げると220～250cmになるそうです。
Passing through the beautiful snow field wen went to see Sea Eagle.　It's the biggest bird in Japan and when it opens its wings, the width is more than 2m.
 

さすがに大きくて立派です。
 

 こちらはオジロワシ。White-tailed Eagle.

 
飛びます。Flies.

 
さてこの日、この後は夕暮れの斜里岳を見に行きました。まっさらな雪道を走って展望台へ。
After that we visited an observatory to see Mt Shari in the evening sun. No trace of people here.

 
斜里岳と海別岳です。まだ２時半です。Mt. shari and Mt.Kaibetu. It was still 2:30 p.m.. Looks like evening.

 
雪と家の感じがなんとなくドイツのクリスマスを思い浮かべるのですが、なんの根拠もありません。

  この日最後は屈斜路湖。白鳥と日没を見て帰りました。雪景色を堪能した１日でした。
The last place we went was Lake Kussharo again to see the swans and the sunset. It was a nice day.

冬の北海道を訪ねて。
　Visiting Hokkaido in Winter.

12/12, 13 は鱒やさんで鳥見。思えばこの鳥見宿に来て、まだ一度もこの庭で撮影をしていませんでした。
We were staying at a bird-watching lodge but we had't done it yet, So on 12/12 ,and 12/13 we fully enjoyed it.
 

これがこの宿の外観。 This is our bird-watching lodge.
 

中に入ると、広い玄関があり、さらに中に入ると贅沢に２面が大きなガラス窓の広い部屋。暖炉があって暖かくて快適です。怠惰な格好のクマのクッションが一層くつろいだ気分にさせてくれます。
Inside, passing though spacious entrance which prevent the room from getting cold, there is a big living room with stove. There are two big window so that we can enjoy the scenery outside.
 

でもこの日は外はマイナス１０度。朝方はマイナス２３度まで下がったそうです。
Out side temperature is -10 degree. Before the sunrise it was -23 degree, the owner said.
 

外に出ると雪でした。 It was snowing outside.
 

雪も小止みになったので撮影開始です。ズボンは４枚、上はは６枚、防寒靴には足用ホカロンまでいれました。それでも寒かったです。
　It gradually stop snowing, we started bird-watching. It was freezing cold.
 

まずコゲラです。　 Japanese pygmy woodpecker
 

こちらはハシブトガラ。コガラにそっくりですが北海道ではハシブトガラが多いそうです。

しばらくするとお目当のシマエナガがやってきたのですが、突然現れ、ちょこちょこ動き回り、飛び回り、どの子を撮ろうか迷っている間に行ってしまいました。実に一枚もシャッターを切れませんでした。辛抱強く待ち、なんとか何枚か撮れました。
Long-tailed Tit. After waiting for a while about 10 came too sudden, moved quickly. While thinking which one I should focus they flew away. I couldn't take any photo for their first, We waited patiently and finally I got some shots.
 

  こちらはゴジュウカラ。こんなに近くでゴジュウカラを見たのは初めてです。
Nutcracker. I've never seen them so close.

冬の北海道を訪ねて。

鱒やさんの鳥見の続きです。Bird-watching at Masuya.
早朝から橘さんが雪かきをしてくれました。こんな光景も新鮮です。この日は日が出たり曇ったり。
It was interesting to see him removing snow with machine. Actually, I've never seen people doing this.
 

すっかり雪かきが終わりました。The garden after the work.
 

枯れ草についた氷が綺麗でした。Frost on the dried grass was beautiful.
 

では早速シマエナガです。シマエナガは本当に動きが早くて難しかったです。
The first bird for this page is Long-tailed Tit.
 

 次はアカゲラです。 Great spotted Woodpecker
 

  コガラにそっくりですがハシブトガラだそうです。珍しくはないんですが小さくて可愛くて大好きな子です。
Marsh tit. It's very common in Hokkaido but it little and very cute. One of my favorite birds.
 

 最後はシメです。Hawfinch
 

 
  鱒やさんでの鳥見もこれでおしまいです。　
この日の夕食です。この日は”時知らず”の鮭と、こちらの珍しいお豆の煮物,（くり豆というのだそうです）。蒸し野菜。どれもとても美味しかったです。いつも美味しい食事をつくていただいてありがとうございました。
The end of the bird-watching at Masuya.　The last meal. Salmon at the best season, and special beans and steamed vegetable. All very delicious. Thank you very much for cooking always very delicious meal.
 

翌日12/14。鱒やさんとはお別れ。最後に記念写真。この後は鶴居村にタンチョウヅルを見に行きました。
　On this day we left Masuya and went to Tsurui village to see cranes and Owl.

冬の北海道を訪ねて。　Visiting Hokkaido in Winter.

 

　12/14 鱒やさんを離れて鶴居村へ。かなり雪が降っていたのでこわごわ出発しましたが、南下するにつれて雪は止んで来ました。一安心です。
　We left Masuya. It was snowing heavily so Hideto drove very carefully、but as we went further it stop snowing so we felt relieved.
 
 
　まずエゾフクロウを見に行きました。
　 First we went to see Ural Owl. They are sooo cute.

　昼間なのでほとんど寝てますがじっと待っているとたまに薄目を開けます。　　
　Since it's daytime they are sleeping but sometimes they open their eyes a little bit.

　次はタンチョウヅルです。
　Red-crowned cranes

　この日はシマフクロウが見られるというので「湯宿だいいち」に泊まりました。カメラを持って待っていると現れました。間近で見ているせいもあってかあまりに大きいのでびっくりです。
　This day we stayed at a place where we would be able to see Blakiston's fish-owl. At night it appeared in the yard. We were very surprised it was very big since we were looking very small birds.

　事実は庭に生簀があってそこに魚を放してあるのです。だいたい決まった時間に食事に来るようです。
　There is a small pond in the garden. They release fish there and Owl come to eat it.

　右の足に魚を捕まえているのですが見えますか？Can ou see? It catches fish 　   with it's foot.

  12/15. 中標津空港から札幌へ。 From Nakashibetu to Sapporo by air
もう少し時間があれば朝食の後に出されるつきたてのお餅を食べられたのですが、朝の便に乗るのでそれは諦めて一路中標津空港へ。朝の雪景色はやはり何度見ても綺麗でした。
　We left early in the morning and headed for Nakashibetu airport for Sapporo. The scenery covered with snow was breathtaking no matter when we saw it.

　飛び立って間も無く、自分たちの飛行機の影と雪原の上に見ることができました。こんなこともあるんですね。
　Soon after the airplane left we saw the shadow of our plane on the snow field. It was interesting.

　来るときにも見た摩周湖をみて、
　We sawLake Mashu,

今度は屈斜路湖も見て、we saw lake Kussharo,

どこかわからない綺麗なカルデラのある山並みを見て（どなたかここがどこかわかったら教えてください。）千歳空港に着きました。 we saw a beautiful mountain range with caldera, then we arrived Chitose airport.

　実はここでで、７月に北海道に来たときに出会ったKさんと落ち合うことになっているのです。彼は札幌近辺の鳥は我が家のごとく詳しく、私たちは幸運なことに彼に案内していただけることになりました。
　There we met Mr.K. Actually we met him in July when we came to Hokkaido. He know the bird-watching point in this area and he kindly offered to guid us.
