6月23日から27日まで青森十二湖にアカショウビンを見に行ってきました。
　We went to "Twelve lake " in Aomori prefecture to see the Ruddy kingfisher which many birders long to see.
 
　先ず羽田から大館能代空港へ。
　We left Haneda *on a plane for Oodate-noshiro airport.

　途中眼下には田植えが終わったばかりの田んぼが。
　From the sky, we could see rice fields that had just been finished planting

　どのあたりを飛んでいるのかわかりませんが田んぼの緑が綺麗です。
　We didn't know where we were flying but the green of the rice fields was very beautiful.

　空港でレンタカーを借り一路十二湖へ。ここが私たちが泊まるバンガローです。
　From the airport, we headed for Juniko, which means twelve lakes. This is our bungalow.

　早速近くの鳥見ポイントに行きました。予想に反してカメラマンは一人もいなくて、夕方まで待ちましたが見られたのはカエルとオシドリ、クロツグミぐらいでした。
　After checking in to the bungalow we went to the birding point nearby.　Contrary to our expectation, no other photographers were around. We stayed there until the evening but could see only frogs, mandarin ducks and black thrushes. No Ruddy kingfisher.
 
　モリアオガエル。木の枝などに泡状の塊を作り、そこに産卵する特殊なカエル。大きいのがメスで、周りにしがみついているのがオスだそうです。
　Forest green tree frogs. Big one is female and the small ones are male.

この泡の中に産卵します。They are a special type of frogs. They make a foamy mass on tree branches and lay eggs.

　こちらはクロツグミ。遠くて暗くてあまり良く見えませんでした。
　This is a black Thrush. It was walking around quickly in a dark、and far away so we couldn't see well.

　こちらはオシドリ(?)の親子。ヒナは３羽いました。
　They are the mother and a child of mandarin duck.

　翌日朝早くトライしましたが、やはりアカショウビンは影も形もありません。遠くでキョロロロロと泣くのを一二度聞きましたが、この場所は諦めて次に行きました。
　Next early morning we tried again but no sign of Kingfisher so we gave up this place and moved onto the next pond.
 
　池に着くと、５、６人のカメラマンがいました。聞くと３０分に一度くらい来るとのこと。やはり鳥のいるところにはカメラマンがいるのですね。逆にカメラマンがいなければ鳥もいないのです。言葉通りいくらも待たないうちに来ました。これが噂に聞くアカショウビンなのかと感激しました。とまった枝は遠くて暗いところでしたがなんとか証拠写真はとりました。
　At the next pond there were 5, 6 camera person. They said the birds come once almost every 30 minutes. So if there is no cameraperson, there is no bird. As they had said, a Ruddy kingfisher came. I was impressed. This is the birds that many birders really want to see.

　実はこんな遠いところです。
　It perched on a branch so far away.

　何か食べているようでしたがよく見るとカエルでした。
　It was eating something. I looked at it closely then found out it was a frog.

　アカショウビンを待っている間に来たのは穴熊の親子でした。
　While waiting for kinfishers, a badger came with two children.

　これは池の写真ですが、どこが池なのかというほど水がありませんでした。昨年まではこの落ち葉のあるところは水があったそうですが、今年は冬の雪が少なく、雪解け水でできている池はどこもわずかしか水がないのだそうです。アカショウビンは水際にいるカエルやザリガニなどを食べるので、水がなければ池にも来ません。遠くのわずかに水が残っているところで狩をし食事もその辺りでしていました。
　This is the photo of the pond. You might think where is a pond? The water of this pond comes from snow. This year they had very little snow so almost no water in many ponds. Ruddy kingfisher catches frogs or crayfishes living at the water edge. Almost no water, they don't come to the edge where we can see it. They did hunting at the back of the pond where there was still some water.

　6月以来毎日来ているという方が駅前の食堂を紹介してくれたので、ちょっと山を降りて、十二湖駅に行って見ました。小さくて可愛い駅でした。なんと駅の食堂では無料WiFiがありました。
　A person who comes everyday introduced us a local small restaurant, where we could have a nice lunch only for 1000 yen, in front of the Juniko station . So we first down the mountain and went to a local station.

　ホームに出るとこんな感じです。もちろん無人駅です。
　The platform of the station. Of course unmanned station.

　紹介していただいた駅前食堂のおまかせ定食。これで１０００円。お刺身は新鮮ですごく美味しかったし、みずという山菜のおひたしも美味しかったです。
　This is the special lunch. Sashimi was fresh and really delicious.

この後宿に戻って休憩して３時半ごろの池に戻りましたが、遠くばかりでした。
After that we went back to the lodge and had a rest. Around three o'clock back to the pond but couldn't take any good photos.
 
　そこで翌日は、出は悪いけど出れば近いという新しいところに行くことにしました。出るのは９時と１時の定期便だと聞いていたので６時半ごろに行きましたがすでに３人先客がいました。どのあたりに来るか親切に教えてくださったのでカメラをセットして待っていると......来ました。本当に目の前でした。感激です
　The next day, we went to the third place where it was said that they would come twice a day but very close. We went there, set our camera and Waited. Soon a kingfisher came on a branch just in front of us. It was beautiful. I was very happy.

　私達より先に来ていられたカップルは埼玉の方で、なんと知り合いの知り合いでした。遠く青森でバッタリ出会うなんて本当に不思議です。
There I met a couple from Saitama. While we were talking we realized that we knew the same person. How small the world is!
 
　翌日は最後の日。朝からここにしました。皆さんだんだん集まって来て多い時は１０人以上だったでしょうか。
この日は朝一番で飛び込みが撮れました。目の前に飛び込んでくれてラッキーです。
　The next day we went to the third pond. Luckily I could take the scene that a kingfisher jumped into the water and caught a crayfish.
 
　先ずダイビングキャッチ！
　First diving catch

　ザリガニと格闘！
　Fight with the crayfish!

　逃げられないように必死です。
　 Desperates so that the crayfish wouldn't escape!

　飛び出し失敗で一呼吸。
　Failed to jump out from the water.

　思い切ってジャンプ。
　Jumps again!

　ここがお気にりの場所で、足元の木に何度も何度もザリガニを叩きつけて、ハサミを落として、
　After catching a crayfish, it always comes this place, smashes the crayfish onto the wood where it perches,

　放り投げて向きを変え、また叩きつけて、
　Tosses it, change the position to hold, then smash it onto the wood again and again...

　そして最後に飲み込みました。向きを変えてしばらくじっとして、そして行ってしまいました。
　then swallows it. After eating it needs a rest, then flies away.

　ここが私たちの撮影場所。昨年はずっと右の奥まで水があったそうです。
　This is where we took the photos. Last year there was water to the right end of the photo.

　シジュウカラも緑の中で綺麗です。
　Great tit is beautiful here.

　最後に王池。ここはまだまだ水がありました。
　This is Ookie, the king of the pond. There were still water here.
