Locally fairly common in northern Amazonia, up to 1100 m. Not recorded east of Río Napo, but
may occur there as well. Found in dense understory, usually at edge of humid forest. Sexes similar.
Central rectrices may be projecting (as illustrated) or rounded (only slightly longer than adjacent
pair). Note dusky throat and relatively dull-colored belly. Also is much larger than Reddish Hermit;
in Andean foothills cf. Gray-chinned. VOICE Song a monotonous series of high wiry notes: "see sew
tsee tsew see sew tsee tsew....”Calls a sharp, descending “psew” and a descending series of falling notes:
"psee psee-psew-psew-psu.” Co, E
